What the bank said

The Committee said inflation remained elevated and that the increase would support a timelier return to its 2 percent goal.

It said economic activity was expanding at a solid pace and domestic spending had been resilient, although uncertainty remained elevated owing in part to geopolitical developments.

It said job gains had kept pace with the workforce and the unemployment rate had changed little.

“Today's policy action will support a timelier return to the Committee's 2 percent goal.”
