What the bank said

The Board said inflation remained too high and that higher fuel prices from the Middle East conflict were adding to inflation directly and spreading to other goods and services.

It judged that holding the rate was appropriate while it assessed the effects of the three increases this year, which had tightened financial conditions, and of the oil supply disruption.

The Board noted that consumer spending growth was slowing and that the unemployment rate in April was higher than expected.

Guidance. The Board said it would do what it considers necessary, including increasing the cash rate target further if required.
