What the bank said

The Board said it assessed the exchange rate, the absence of demand-related pressures in the economy and the level of monetary restriction implemented.

It said headline inflation fell from 4.45% in April to 3.55% in the first fortnight of June, with core inflation down to 4.12%.

It said the economy was expected to expand in the second quarter after contracting in the first, but that economic slack would persist throughout the forecast horizon.

Guidance. The Board said it expected it would be appropriate to keep the reference rate at its current level.

“It judges that the monetary policy stance is well-suited to face the challenges posed by the macroeconomic environment”
