What the bank said

The Board said it assessed the exchange rate, the differences in the stage of the economic cycle between Mexico and the United States, the absence of demand-side pressures in Mexico and the level of monetary restriction.

It said headline inflation rose from 3.10% to 3.42% between the first fortnights of July and September because of non-core inflation, while core inflation kept falling, to 3.79%.

It noted that the Federal Reserve had raised its target range for the federal funds rate by 25 basis points in September.

Guidance. The Board said its decisions would consider the ongoing disinflation and its determinants, and that monetary policy would not have to react mechanically to anticipated federal funds rate adjustments.
