What the bank said

The MPC said the conflict in the Middle East had caused a significant increase in global energy and other commodity prices, which would raise CPI inflation in the near term.

It said that before this there had been continued disinflation in domestic prices and wages, and that it was alert to the risk of second-round effects in wage and price-setting while also assessing the likely weakening in activity.

Guidance. The Committee said it would monitor the situation in the Middle East closely and stands ready to act as necessary to keep CPI inflation on track to meet the 2% target in the medium term.
