What the bank said

The MPC said CPI inflation had increased to 3.3% and was likely to be higher later in the year as higher energy prices passed through, with a risk of material second-round effects.

It said the labour market continued to loosen, a weakening economy could contain inflationary pressures, and financial conditions had tightened since the conflict in the Middle East began.

Guidance. The Committee said it stands ready to act as necessary to ensure that CPI inflation remains on track to meet the 2% target in the medium term.

Dissent

Huw Pill voted to raise Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 4%.
