What the bank said

The Committee said the underlying trend of inflation declined in December, and that while leading indicators pointed to firmer monthly inflation in January led by food, the rise in the underlying trend was limited.

It said demand conditions continued to support disinflation, albeit at a moderating pace.

The Committee said inflation expectations and pricing behaviour, though improving, still posed risks to disinflation.

Guidance. The Committee said it would keep a tight stance until price stability is achieved, review the step size meeting by meeting, and tighten if the inflation outlook deviates significantly from the interim targets.

“The step size is reviewed prudently on a meeting-by-meeting basis with a focus on the inflation outlook.”
