What the bank said

The Committee said the underlying trend of inflation was essentially flat in February.

It said heightened geopolitical uncertainty had weakened global risk appetite and raised energy prices, and that decisions supporting tight monetary policy had been taken alongside coordinated fiscal measures to contain the risks.

The Committee said it was closely monitoring how geopolitical developments affect the inflation outlook through costs and economic activity.

Guidance. The Committee said decisions would be made prudently meeting by meeting and that it would tighten in case of a significant and persistent deterioration in the inflation outlook, including one driven by recent developments.

“The effects of geopolitical developments on the inflation outlook through the cost channel and economic activity are being closely monitored.”
