What the bank said

The Council said consumer prices rose 2.1% and core inflation 2.2% in April, both below the March Inflation Report projection.

It judged that the inflation outlook had improved significantly, helped by a stronger forint and a significant decline in risk premia, but said high global energy and commodity prices posed upside risks.

The Council said the uncertain global environment warranted a careful approach and that all factors would be assessed comprehensively in the June Inflation Report.

Guidance. The Council said it would decide on the base rate cautiously and in a data-driven manner, also weighing whether the decline in risk premia persists.

Dissent

One member, Péter Gottfried, voted to cut the base rate by 25 basis points to 6.00%.
