What the bank said

The Committee said inflation had slowed and been lower than projected, with CPI inflation at 3.0% and CPI-ATE at 2.7% in July.

It said it was too early to conclude that the inflation outlook had changed materially since June.

It judged that a restrictive stance was still needed because inflation remained markedly above target and past increases in business costs would keep it elevated.

Guidance. The Committee said the future path of the policy rate will depend on economic developments, and the Governor said it may still become necessary to raise the rate.

“Inflation has been lower than projected, but it is too early to conclude that the inflation outlook has changed materially since June.”
