What the bank said

The Committee said inflation was still markedly above target; CPI inflation had been higher than projected while underlying CPI-ATE inflation had slowed and been lower than projected.

It said the inflation outlook somewhat further ahead had not changed materially and that the rapid rise in business costs would likely keep inflation elevated.

It judged that a somewhat tighter stance was needed to return inflation to target within a reasonable time, while not restricting the economy more than needed.

Guidance. The Committee said it will likely be necessary to keep the policy rate elevated for a time and that it is prepared to raise it further if warranted by the inflation outlook.

“The Committee is prepared to raise the policy rate further if warranted by the inflation outlook.”
