What the bank said

The Executive Board said there was still spare capacity in the economy and that measures of underlying inflation excluding temporary fiscal measures were relatively close to 2%.

It said the combination of stronger economic activity and continued supply shocks from the war in the Middle East meant the policy rate should be raised more than in the June forecast to stabilise inflation around 2%.

It pointed to recent rises in oil, electricity and fuel prices and a weaker krona as risks that inflation could be higher than forecast.

Guidance. The Executive Board said that if the outlook remains unchanged the increases in the policy rate will begin this year, and that it would raise the rate faster if there were signs of a larger and more persistent upturn in inflation.

“If the outlook for inflation and economic activity remains unchanged, the Executive Board assesses that the increases in the policy rate will begin this year.”
