What the bank said

The Committee said headline and underlying inflation had accelerated, with headline inflation surpassing the upper limit of the tolerance range, Focus expectations at 5.30% for 2026 and its projection for the fourth quarter of 2027 at 3.7%.

It said the restriction already accumulated allowed different rate paths consistent with convergence, and it assessed paths that bring inflation to target by the first quarter of 2028, the horizon for its next decision.

Guidance. The Committee said the total magnitude of the calibration cycle would be set in light of new information to ensure inflation converges to the target.

“The Committee deemed it appropriate, at this moment, to proceed with the monetary policy calibration cycle, reducing the basic policy rate to 14.25% p.a.”
