What the bank said

The Board of Governors said the decision was meant to strengthen Rupiah stability against worsening global conditions caused by the war in the Middle East, in support of the 2.5%±1% inflation target for 2026-2027.

It noted the Rupiah stood at Rp16,985 per US dollar on 16 March 2026, 1.29% weaker than at the end of February, and that CPI inflation of 4.76% in February reflected a temporary base effect from the 2025 electricity tariff discount.

Guidance. The Bank said it would optimise the monetary instruments available, including any necessary adjustments, to mitigate global spillovers and maintain economic stability.
