What the bank said

The Board of Governors said the increase was a further measure to stabilise the Rupiah against heightened global turmoil triggered by the war in the Middle East, and a pre-emptive step to keep inflation within the 2.5±1% target in 2026 and 2027.

It noted that global headwinds were driving capital outflows from emerging markets and strengthening the US dollar, while seasonal demand for foreign exchange from dividend payments and external debt servicing rose in the second quarter.

The Bank said CPI inflation was low, at 2.42% in April 2026, but had to be kept under control.
