What the bank said

The Board of Governors said the Rupiah had moved weaker than projected since the May meeting, driven by continued global turmoil, strong domestic demand for foreign exchange and foreign portfolio outflows.

It said the increase aimed to raise yields to attract foreign portfolio inflows and was a pre-emptive step to keep inflation within the 2.5±1% target in 2026 and 2027.

Alongside the rate rise, the Bank said it would raise SRBI interest rates across the 6-, 9- and 12-month tenors, cut hedging swap costs for foreign investors by 10% and reopen term repo auctions for banks.
