What the bank said

The MPC said global energy prices had fallen since the previous meeting but remained higher than before the conflict in the Middle East and volatile.

It said CPI inflation had fallen to 2.8% but was expected to rise later in the year, and that the risk of second-round effects grew the longer higher energy prices persisted.

It said the labour market continued to loosen and that higher interest rates faced by households and businesses would act to reduce inflation over time.

Guidance. The Committee said it stands ready to act as necessary to ensure that CPI inflation remains on track to meet the 2% target in the medium term.

Dissent

Megan Greene and Huw Pill voted to raise Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 4%.
